Grant Giving
Grant Applications are considered twice a year. The deadlines for submission are 1 February and 1 September.
Grants can only be made if they fall within the charitable objects of the Finzi Trust. These are as follows:
To advance the education and improve the artistic taste of the public in music by the following means:
The Finzi Trust awards grants from two separate funds and applicants should read the guidelines carefully before making an application on the appropriate form.
To advance the education and improve the artistic taste of the public in music by the following means:
- The founding and financing of fellowships, scholarships and prizes.
- The making of grants.
- The granting of assistance to musicians and students of music.
- The promotion of music and musicians: in particular, but without limitation, British music including the name and work of Gerald Finzi
- The financing and promotion of public performances of musical works
- The financing of the recording, copying or publication of music and promotion of such works
- The commissioning and financing of new musical works and promotion of such works
- The commissioning and financing of the publication of literary or artistic works on or in connection with music and promotion of such works

FINZI TRUST GENERAL FUND
The GENERAL FUND offers a small number of modest grants (of up to £500) from the Trust’s unrestricted assets.
Any applications which do not relate to music will not be considered.

- Grants from the General Fund are available to individuals for musical projects which fall within The Finzi Trust’s charitable objects.
- Grants are not available to support full-time education, or Postgraduate courses.
- Grants awarded are only to be used for the specific purpose/project detailed in the application.
- Retrospective applications (i.e., applications in respect of expenditure already incurred) will not be considered.
- Without consent from The Finzi Trust, grant funds must be spent within 6 months of their being received by the beneficiaries.
ORGANISATIONS:
- Grants from the General Fund are available to bona fide organisations for musical projects which fall within The Finzi Trust’s charitable objects.
- Grants are only to be used for the specific purpose/project detailed in the application.
- Retrospective applications (i.e., applications in respect of expenditure already incurred) will not be considered.
- The Finzi Trust takes seriously the reputation and track record of the organisations to which it makes grants. This applies in particular to organisations who are responsible for the safeguarding of young and vulnerable individuals. As a condition of any grant application, the Trust reserves the right to seek reasonable information and assurances in this connection – including, where deemed necessary, copies of relevant policy documents.
- Without consent from The Finzi Trust, grant funds must be spent within 6 months of their being received by the beneficiaries.
THE YOUNG MUSICIANS' FUND
The Young Musicians’ Fund is SOLELY for the benefit of individuals aged 25 and below who are in need of funds to further their participation in, study or practice of music.

- Grants awarded to date to individuals have ranged from £250 to £7,000 and have helped with the purchase of musical instruments, funding for short courses, recording costs, performances.
- Grants are not available to support full-time education or Postgraduate courses.
- Grants awarded are only to be used for the specific purpose/project detailed in the grant application.
- Retrospective applications (i.e., applications in respect of expenditure already incurred) will not be considered.
- Two References must be submitted with each application.
- As part of The Finzi Trust's due diligence, references will be taken up as part of the offer process. To aid this process, Applicants are therefore required to ensure that contact details for their chosen referees are correct and up-to-date.
- If the Grant sought is for the purchase of an instrument, the Applicant’s primary Referee must be their music/instrumental teacher.
- If the Grant sought is for any other purpose, the Applicant’s primary Referee must be someone who can speak to the Applicant’s musical abilities and interest.
- Without consent from The Finzi Trust, grant funds must be spent within 6 months of their being received by the beneficiaries.
ORGANISATIONS:
- Grants are available to bona fide organisations for musical projects which fall within The Finzi Trust’s charitable objects.
- Grants awarded from The Young Musicians’ Fund must be used by beneficiaries SOLELY for the benefit of individuals aged 25 and below who are in need of funds to further their participation in, study or practice of music.
- Grants are only to be used for the specific purpose/project detailed in the application.
- Retrospective applications (i.e., applications in respect of expenditure already incurred) will not be considered.
- The Finzi Trust takes seriously the reputation and track record of the organisations to which it makes grants. Who can apply for a grant & what will be funded.
- The Trust welcomes proposals that fall within the Trust’s charitable objects from organisations and from individuals.
- Applications are considered twice a year and the deadlines for submission are 1 February and 1 September.
- Timely submission is important, because the grants sub-committee meets to consider awards of grants shortly after each of these deadlines and any applications received after that meeting will not be considered until the next submission round.
- Retrospective applications (i.e., applications in respect of expenditure already incurred) will not be considered.
- Full artistic and budgetary details including estimated income and details of other funding being sought are necessary; please ensure that the person making the application gives their name, postal address, daytime telephone number and email address.

ALL APPLICATIONS should be emailed to [email protected] by the appropriate deadline and the Trustees will aim to notify applicants about the result within 2 months of the deadline.
- Any personal data collected via the application form is provided solely for the purpose of dealing with the application.
- Trustees’ decisions are final and feedback is not given.
- Grants awarded are only to be used for the specific purpose/project identified in the application.
- Successful applicants should credit the Trust’s support whenever possible.
- In order to receive the grant, bank details will be requested, and acknowledgement of safe receipt will be expected within 7 days.
REPORTING
A final report relating to any successful application which the applicant permits the Trust, at its discretion, to use on its website and in any other promotional material will be a condition of any grant.
INDICATIVE BUDGET 2024-2025
The Trustees have resolved that for the year 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 the total amount which the Trust will make available to give out by way of grants will be:
Trustees reserve the right to vary any sum offered as they see appropriate.
- No less than [£50,000] in respect of grants to individuals and organisations for the benefit of Young Musicians aged 25 and below;
- No less than £5,000 in respect of grants from the General Fund.
